Later Stages of Pregnancy


The later stages of pregnancy comprise of the last couple of weeks and that are from week 40 to 42. These weeks generally looked upon as the final stage of pregnancy. But by this time, the mother is already beginning to get impatient and is anxious about the labor pain and child birth. It is important for the family members, the husband and the doctor to keep her calm and relaxed during the later stages of pregnancy so that she is mentally well prepared for the delivery. But all new mothers just can’t wait to hold the baby in their arms.

Btu babies take their own time to come. Only about 5% of them arrive on the due date. Some may arrive as early as the 37th week while others may wait well till after the 40th week. Btu pregnant women in these later stages of pregnancy are often a bag of nerves. They are anxious that their water bag may break or have many other fears crawling in their minds.

During the later stages of pregnancy, the discomforts felt by the woman in the second trimester continue. Many women may find it difficult walking and breathing and go to the bathroom much more often. This is because the baby is growing and is putting more force on your organs. But you need not worry about these symptoms in the later stages of pregnancy as these are pretty natural and normal.

Here are a couple of changes in your body that will go on during the final stage of your pregnancy:

  • Heartburn
  • Swollen ankles and feet, even fingers and face in some cases
  • Tender  and painful breasts
  • Have trouble sleeping
  • Movements of baby inside you
  • If you feel any pains or contractions, during any time of the later stages of pregnancy, rush to your doctor immediately. These can be false pains but your doctor will need to check your thoroughly.

    It is universally acknowledged that pregnant women need to exercise regularly and take nutritious foods in order to stay healthy.
