For this review, I slept on the Saatva Classic, the Loom & Leaf, and the Zenhaven mattresses for several weeks in my own home. These bed mattress were also examined in our group tests performed for Wirecutter’s guides to the best foam bed mattress and the best innerspring mattresses. As Wirecutter’s senior personnel author for sleep, I’ve spoken with ratings of experts in the bed mattress market and in materials science; visited lots of bed mattress factories, display rooms, and stores; and read the fine print on requirements, service warranties, and return policies. Most recently, supervising editor Courtney Schley examined the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her home for numerous weeks.

We have not yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “environment-friendly” brands. But we do understand that the company uses thistle pulp or organic wool as a flame retardant (rather than chemicals or fiberglass) and only organic cotton (instead of artificial blends) in its covers. As do other online bed mattress companies, Saatva promotes such bonus as zoned layers for “optimal spine support”; we’re less pleased with those features and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive customer support and durable foams and coils.
